NAGARA
Nagara is a small town in Hosnagara taluk of Shivamogga district. The fort is built on a small hill. The fragrance of the history is spread allover the fort. It was called by the name Bidnur during the 16th century. Situated at a roadside of state highway, this charming fort attracts many number of tourists.I had a visit on my way back to home. There weren't many people. Hardly I was able to find only a few couple of visitors there. The fort is built on a small hill beside a small lake. It was around 4 in the evening. I started to climb top as soon as I reached there. The top view was refreshing and this adorable fort filled me with the sence of serenity. The construction of the fort on a small hilltop was mesmerizing.
I was able to find many similarities between Nagara fort and Kavaledurga fort, later I discovered that both the forts had been ruled by Shivappa nayaka, the Keladi ruler. It was the last capital city of Keladi rulers. Later in 1763, the place was acquired by Hyder Ali , the king of Mysore.
The fort will be covered by green grasses at the time of monsoon season. On the hill you can find the remains of fort, a broken old canon, darbar hall, Akka Tangi kola. The place is hidden inside the lush green forests of western ghats. I had a nice time, and hope you will have the same✌.
